03 Aug 2019
Mona & Raj Bhogal are delighted to announce their forthcoming event, The OKA Summer Garden Party 2019Post Event Update12th August 2019One Kind Act's annual garden party, the most sought after, popular event in the calendar was yet again a sold-out affair. On a pleasantly warm August afternoon, over a hundred guests gathered on the lush, mature lawns of Raj and Mona Bhogal's country manor. The bar was busy with Prosecco and Pimms, wine and beer flowing until the late hours. Lavish starters, a banquet for main meal and home-made desserts were served while music played, conversation flowed and a gentle breeze blew. Live singers performed soul, jazz, blues, and Latino music to the audience who either sipped their drinks while swaying to the music or hit the dance floor while singing along enthusiastically. Trustee Annu Shah gave a well-received speech on the work of One Kind Act. Raj Bhogal spoke movingly about raising money in memory of his brother Belu who, in his lifetime, always reached out to help wherever he could. Over £20,000 was raised and two noble causes were supported on the day:Compassionate Hands - which takes care of over 90 disabled, abandoned babies and children in Kenya Made with Hope - which aims to install water tanks to collect clean rainwater to schools in TanzaniaAn auction and raffle raised further funds in a more traditional way compared to an impromptu generously sponsored jump in the pool by OKA chairman Shamit at midnight! We just hope he hasn’t caught a chill! Event DetailsOKA GARDEN PARTYOne Kind Act is delighted to announce the 2019 Garden Party on Saturday 3 August. THE REAL JUNK FOOD PROJECT LONDON NW (TRJFP) – Based in Burnt Oak, North London, TRJFP works tirelessly to ensure 1 ton per week of food (which would otherwise have been wasted by businesses) is diverted to over 100 struggling residents via their team of 10 volunteers and 1 van. Food is not just given away - many of their beneficiaries purchase it on a ‘pay as you feel’ basis. This innovating and sustainable concept is being rolled out all over the UK, and we are proud to be assisting TRJFP with their medium term goal to establish a renovated Community Kitchen with increased storage capacity at a facility provided by the International Gospel Church (non faith based)2. AB JEETEGA INDIA FOUNDATION – Grass root level sport in India is fractured and segmented on the shameful bias of socio-economic, caste, religion and gender status. And even though the population is among the world’s youngest and has the innate potential and talent, opportunity is not always available to those who are deserving!Ab Jeetega India offers underprivileged athletes a high quality, equal and transparent sporting platform to make their sporting dreams come true and give them experiences which will give them the skills to succeed in life outside of sport too. 3. MADE WITH HOPE, TANZANIA – Made With Hope’s mission is to provide education to the poor children that live in rural communities around Arusha in Tanzania. Their current project is to support CHETI Primary School & Girls Boarding House, a private school that has been providing high-quality education to the community for many years. The school is in desperate need of expansion. Made With Hope has already funded and constructed 5 more classrooms at this school, however an extra 3 classrooms need to be built costing £23,185 which will enable an additional 135 children to be taught to a high level. Fashion Drinks & Kamasutra
31 May 2019 - 19 Jun 2019
Seema & Meena are delighted to announce the success of their event ‘Fashion Drinks & Kamasutra’ in aid of One Kind Act towards their worthy causes.Post Event Update19th June 2019Seema Midha and Meena Dhawan hosted an afternoon of fashion, food, prosecco and Kamasutra in June. There were several stalls of jewellery, essential oils and designer outfits to peruse at Seema's beautiful home before a lavish lunch was served and over 70 ladies settled down for an insight into the Kamasutra. Eminent academic and storyteller Seema Anand gave a fascinating insight into the refinements, elegance and sophistication of the ancient scriptures. There were secrets of perfumery, phases of the moon, the art of sending clandestine message through wearing certain jewellery and even hidden messages in the humble paan. Needless to say the audience was enchanted and sales of the oils, jewellery and clothes increased after the talk! Seema Anand's book "Art of Seduction" sold out on the day leading, we hope, to an increase in attendees' pleasure.Over £2500 was raised which will go towards helping children in poverty through food and education.About One Kind ActOne Kind Act Changes Communities and lives of others globally who suffer as a result of Poverty of Health, Nutrition and Education and may have Fallen Through The Net of the larger charities. Amrisha's Hackney Half Marathon
28 Feb 2019 - 30 May 2019
Amrisha Prashar is delighted to announce her forthcoming event, Hackney Half MarathonPost Event Update20th June 2019Hackney Half MarathonThrilled to announce that I completed the Hackney Half Marathon. All the training and hard work paid off as I managed to complete my personal best of under 2 hours. An awesome day to be remembered but most importantly £1,000 was raised for Whisper Children's Charity in Uganda. The donation will mean that 420 children will be provided with essential medication and drugs to help treat serious conditions such as TB, HIV, Malaria and Malnutrition. Fantastic news and a big thank you on behalf of myself and One Kind Act for all the support.Watch out for my next challenge...Event DetailsHACKNEY HALF MARATHON!Amrisha has decided to take on the Hackney Half Marathon in May - 21km across East London.Training will involve three months of regular long runs (come rain or shine), cross-training, yoga and a diet with minimal alcohol and sweets! She is excited by the challenge and in doing so will raise funds for those less fortunate.Funds will be donated to the charity Whisper, who is a children's hospital based in Jinja, Uganda, that provides essential medical and treats up to 40 children daily suffering from serious conditions that include TB, HIV, Malaria and Malnutrition. Amrisha visited Whisper on a trip to Uganda recently and was amazed by the dedication, positivity and expertise from the hospital staff doing all they can to help the children. Uganda has good (if scarce) medical staff but is routinely let down by poor support services and standards of care. For example, power cuts are common and in government hospitals, small children on oxygen routinely die when the power fails. Whisper’s inpatient mortality rate has been very low by local standards, with just 5 unavoidable deaths since the hospital opened. Amrisha would love your support in helping donate any way you can for Whisper as she takes on the race!About One Kind ActOne Kind Act Changes Communities and lives of others globally who suffer as a result of Poverty of Health, Nutrition and Education and may have Fallen Through The Net of the larger charities. 'Life after Stroke'
30 Apr 2019 - 30 Apr 2019
One Kind Act are delighted to announce the success of our 'Life After Stroke' fund-raising afternoon. Post Event Update1st May 2019On a sunny afternoon in May, One Kind Act hosted an event to raise awareness of head injury. Balwinder Kapila, an astonishingly brave, articulate and positive woman lost her vibrant, sports-loving 15 year old son unexpectedly to a stroke some years ago. In his memory she self-published a cook book, "A Pinch of Spice" with traditional, home-made recipes passed down through generations from our great grandmothers and beyond. In typical One Kind Act style, the afternoon was full of fun, laughter, an abundance of food and drink, in the sprawling country home of trustee Mona Bhogal. There was a chance to peruse and buy beautiful traditional Indian jewellery. This was interspersed with poignancy and heartache as Balwinder related the story of why and how the book came into being. The book, which is a testament to how something constructive and positive can emerge from tragedy sold dozens of copies on the day.£905 was raised on the day which will go a long way in improving the lives of children affected by stroke. It will be granted to the Indian Head Injury Foundation - a charity OKA support that is very close to our hearts (see further details under CAUSES) - to purchase a multi-activities workstation used for upper extremities exercises required by these children. The workstation will be named in memory of Balwinder's son, Aman Kapila.About One Kind ActOne Kind Act Changes Communities and lives of others globally who suffer as a result of Poverty of Health, Nutrition and Education and may have Fallen Through The Net of the larger charities.
