COVID-19 RELIEF FUND

Update 6  8 October 2020

Through continuing donations of our kind Supporters, this outstanding amount as displayed on this page has been raised to date for the COVID-19 Relief Fund.

Therefore, the following further grants have been made to help with the continuing crisis of food poverty during this COVID-19 pandemic.
  • London Kitchen Community (LCK): £6,000 (which includes £500 from funds received from Lloyds Bank Foundation under their Staff Matched Giving scheme for COVID-19)
  • Organising Food For London (OFFL): £5,000

Update 5  3 July 2020

Through continuing donations of our kind Supporters, this outstanding amount as displayed on this page has been raised to date for the COVID-19 Relief Fund and a further £1000 has been granted to LCK to help with the continuing crisis of food poverty during this COVID-19 pandemic.

Update 4  9 June 2020

Through continuing donations of our kind Supporters, this outstanding amount as displayed on this page has been raised to date for the COVID-19 Relief Fund. OKA extend our thanks to:
  1. Children’s Hunger Relief Fund (CHRF),  a Sri-Lanka based charity we support, for their very kind donation of £2000 made from their charity reserves. This money has been granted in equal shares of £1000 to a) World Child Cancer to help towards mitigating the impact of Covid 19 in Bangldesh. This will be done through reducing exposure of health care staff to infection, purchasing personal protective equipment (PPE) for them, educating parents so that they know how to protect them b) Your One Wish, a small charity that is preparing and distributing essential family food packs for children and families who are relying heavily on school vouchers which is minimal for making ends meet whilst the children are home for meals all day, everyday during this COVID-19 crisis.
  2. Karun Soni for donating his artwork to raise monies for LCK. OKA have matched this and have made a further grant of £400 to LCK to help with the continuing crisis of food poverty during this COVID-19 pandemic.

Update 3 23 May 2020

Through continuing donations of our kind Supporters, this outstanding amount as displayed on this page has been raised to date for the COVID-19 Relief Fund.

OKA continue to support the three charities providing the invaluable and selfless on-the-ground work required to keep the homeless and the vulnerable alive during this Covid crisis.  As a result of specific donations made by individuals, OKA have made further urgently-needed grants to:

  1. Organising Food For London (OFFL): £2008 in total to continue helping them to purchase long life provisions and fresh fruit and vegetables. OKA wish to thank a) Children’s Hunger Relief Fund (CHRF),  a Sri-Lanka based charity we support, for their very kind donation of £1008 made from their charity reserves and b) OKA Associate, Ritu Soni for her kind donation of £500 in memory of her parents and which has been matched by OKA to £1000.
  2. London Community Kitchen (LCK): £1350 in total to continue helping them towards providing the hundreds of food parcels and local community cafe they provide for the vulnerable, homeless and the marginalised people of our Harrow community. OKA wish to thank a) one of our regular supporters for her donation of £350 on behalf of charity the Rudy A Menon Foundation (www.rudyamenon.org) and b) OKA Associate,  Ritu Soni for her kind donation of £500 in memory of her parents and which has been matched by OKA to £1000.

PLEASE DONATE HERE TO HELP US HELP OTHERS.

Update 2 25 April 2020

Through continuing donations of our kind Supporters, this outstanding amount as displayed on this page has been raised to date for the COVID-19 Relief Fund.

As mentioned in Update 1 below, OKA are reaching out to other well-deserving Causes here in the UK and abroad to see how we can help them help others during this crucial lock-down period of the pandemic. As a result, OKA have made another urgently-needed grant as follows:
1. Organising Food For London (OFFL) £6120 in total to purchase long life food and drinks and fresh fruit and vegetables for 220 homeless people being sheltered across 3 hostels and provided over 9 separate deliveries (totalling 1980 food parcels in all) and for 4 hubs set up to meet the food needs of 100 elderly and vulnerable families in the Harrow and Haringey districts of London, provided over 7 deliveries (totalling 700 food parcels in all).

OKA wish to thank OKA Associate, Neena Koshal and her friends and family members who have made kind donations to the sum of £702 to help towards the fund for supporting OFFL to buy these urgently needed provisions.

Please also note Prideview Group have directed some (£7,000) of the funds raised at last year's Prideview Cricket Challenge Cup Day to the Covid-19 Relief Fund, which has helped One Kind Act to make this grant to OFFL.

PLEASE DONATE HERE TO HELP US HELP OTHERS.

Update 1 20 April 2020

Through the kind donations of our Supporters, over £3600 has been raised to date for the COVID-19 Relief Fund. OKA have matched this amount and so far have made desperately needed grants to the following amazing voluntary organisations (see below under Details for further details).
1. London Community Kitchen: £3500 to purchase long life food products, PPE and packaging for the distribution of food to residents defined as vulnerable in the Harrow area
2. NishkamSWAT: £3750 to provide meals directly to our brave NHS workers who constantly are risking their lives to help the very vulnerable and sick within hospitals.

OKA are reaching out to other hands-on voluntary groups here in the UK and other Causes around the world that are dealing with the challenges of COVID-19 to help in any way we can during this crisis and will be deploying further funds imminently.

PLEASE DONATE HERE TO HELP US HELP OTHERS.

Details

One Kind Act hope that you and all your family are well and staying safe in view of all that is happening around the world. It’s a hugely uncertain time globally, with closures everywhere affecting everyone. So many of our plans have been disrupted, leaving us frustrated and disappointed. But more sadly, so many people’s lives are now so adversely affected by the economic aftermath of all closures. Impoverished people already experiencing serious hardships are now even more vulnerable to the threat of Covid-19, along with the elderly and people with serious health issues.

One Kind Act are very clear, we HAVE to help in any way we can. So, One Kind are launching a COVID-19 Relief Fund with immediate effect.

At the outset, we are teaming up with two trustworthy UK Causes we already support who we knew would step up to this crisis. You’ll see below what measures these Causes have already taken to help the local communities. And going forward, we may well identify other Causes doing similar work whom we will want to support after necessary due diligence. It is with our best intention that all monies raised through this Relief Fund will be used as intended, either through provision of food or meeting other needs.

NishkamSWAT

As well as the normal regular feeding of the homeless, NishkamSWAT will be providing a FREE MOBILE LANGAR SERVICE at this crucial time of need for over 65-year olds in isolation. They will be taking all the necessary health and safety precautions to make sure they run a safe service to bring food to their doorstep. They have sent out an appeal to all their communities to identify these vulnerable people who would benefit from this service.

NishkamSWAT have also got involved in providing meals directly our brave NHS workers who constantly are risking their lives to help the very vulnerable and sick within hospitals. Their Free Mobile Langar Service has served over 3000 meals so far to NHS staff at these following hospitals;  Chelsea & Westminster, Royal Free, West Middlesex, Ealing, Hillingdon & Northwick Park. Their needs are increasing day by day as most canteens are closed. The staff work long hours on the frontline and risk their lives for our safety.  The grant will go a long way towards providing regular meals for the staff.

LONDON COMMUNITY KITCHEN (formerly known as THE REAL JUNK FOOD PROJECT)

London Community Kitchen have been enlisted onto the Harrow council “mini cobra committee” and have been given full access to the Council’s fleet of vans and social workers to help distribute hot food and parcels to the needy. LCK founder, Taz Gaffar, has been nominated to lead the distribution.

LCK find themselves to be the only Hub currently operational in the Borough of Harrow. They are truly overwhelmed with the demands upon them; they are supplying on an average of 120 families food provision daily as well as supporting several organisations including, Mind, Men cap, HAD, Relief, Harrow Care Homes and Northwick Park Hospital.

Please see below photos of the London Community Kitchen based in Harrow of food parcels being prepared by a group of volunteers for the most vulnerable, as identified by the Harrow Council, as a result of the pandemic.

BOTH CAUSES CLEARLY NEED MONEY TO BUY ALL PROVISIONS THEY NEED TO PREPARE THE FOOD THEY INTEND TO DISTRIBUTE TO THE VULNERABLE.

PLEASE DONATE TO HELP US HELP THEM.

You may DONATE by way of:
1. An online donation on this Page by clicking on PLEDGE NOW or

More so, if you feel you wish to do more as the lockdown continues, perhaps consider raising funds for these worthy causes through innovative ideas such as cookery classes, yoga sessions etc, using social media and the well-oiled communication apps we have at our disposal eg zoom/skype/facetime. Come up with an idea and contact us on annu.shah1@sky.com and we will help set you on your way.

Thank you.
